Phelps broke swimmer Mark Spitz's record of seven gold medals at one Olympics by swimming to eight gold medals in Beijing. Van Dyken said her last Olympic experience at the 2000 Sydney Games was Phelps' first Olympic Games. Forty-seven Colorado State student-athletes have earned Mountain West Scholar-Athlete awards for their work in the classroom during the 2007-08 academic year. The Mountain West Conference made the announcement Monday. MORE

The Colorado State University swimming and diving team is looking ahead toward next season and has signed eight new student-athletes to compete in the upcoming season. The 2008-09 class has much to live up to after the 2007-08 season provided a surprise of competitiveness from the soon-to-be sophomores. Colorado State is taking a major step forward, a $20 million leap toward a vivid future. In a historic announcement, the university on Wednesday unveiled its largest commitment toward athletic facilities in four decades. Breaking ground this summer near Moby Arena, Colorado State will erect a $13 million indoor practice facility and a $7 million academic and training center. MORE
